TE ESTOY HABLANDO is a short film based on life experiences of Deaf children, teens and adults in Northeastern Mexico, in the border city of Matamoros, Tamp. Mexico.

  PURPOSE

  • To shine a spotlight on the daily isolation of Deaf children, teens and adults struggling with a severe lack of communication within their own family.
  • To motivate the local church to become active in serving alongside Deaf Christians spreading the Good News of Salvation to the Deaf community.
  • To serve as a visual representation of common struggles Deaf individuals face to be seen in a society that does not yet provide the same basic human rights of education, health care, legal services.
  • To serve as a catalyst for the state government to ratify the Federal Law passed in 2005 which requires Deaf individuals to be accepted as full legal members of society.
  • The state where the film is based is just one of more than a dozen states still ignoring the Federal mandate to end discrimination towards its Deaf citizens due to lack of interest and lack of oversight to ensure the changes are made.

WHAT DOES “TE ESTOY HABLANDO” MEAN?

  • A common phrase in Spanish to say “ Hey, I’m talking to you”
  • This is a phrase parents often say when they are frustrated with their Deaf child.
  • · Our short-film seeks to flip this phrase on its head showing that the Deaf community is indeed talking to us, but are we “listening?”
